Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the essential meaning of compulsive buying experiences in working women in their 20s & 30s. In-depth interviews were conducted with 4 participants in accordance with Giorgi¡¯s method of obtaining analytic material in phenomenological research. As a result, 303 meaning units were deduced, summed up to 114, and then 24 final sub-constituents were categorized as 9 hyper-constituents. The results of analysis are as follows: Compensation for emotional deficiency and subsequent low self-esteem stemming from a lack of, or perceived lack of emotional support from parental figures. Counteractions against parents who tried to control their purchasing activities. An alternative for dealing with stress immediately and legitimately. Comfort in finding someone to help improve their spending habits and the observation of ¡°The cycle of pleasure and regret¡± will serve as foundational starting points for future quantitative research regarding the spending habits of working women in their 20s & 30s designed to provide basic data on the development of compulsive purchase prevention and treatment programs.
